This doesn’t affect much in North America, except providing better economies of scale and more financial resources, but in Europe, they’d have Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Opel , and Vauxhall all in basically the same segment (the latter two are at least geographically segregated, but, still).

It runs the risk of making British Leyland look like a model of lean efficiency.

If Jeremy Corby n wins a December election, does he restart British Leyland?

I'm gonna say, this feels like the thing with Renault.

EU antitrust concerns, French, German, and Italian labor unions, the French government, Dongfeng, and, maybe, the Peugeot family.

Murphy said similar to Fiat Chrysler’s potential tie-up with Renault, the “industrial logic” is “unclear unless there is massive headcount reduction.”

Merger of equals and Chrysler yikes.

Also I'm pretty sure China owns 13 percent of Peugeot.  Trump's gonna love that.

Aside from Jeep, is there any reason for PSA to agree to a merger?

Nice. The 508 looks like a French Passat to me.

In all seriousness PSA could use a flagship for it’s DS brand, and Maserati’s twin  turbo V6 would be perfect for that

It’s a Pentastar V6, but yes it would.

I hope this means (highly doubtful), but that we could see some cool smaller European cars over here...but all they’ll probably send is the crappy crossovers :/

If they brought it over with a manual, it would be one of few Crossovers I would actually one...though I liked the pre-facelift one more than the post-facelift one!

It’s possible; US mfrs never really got the small car thing down (in terms of competitiveness) but I think you’re right about the crossovers.

PSAs cars aren’t that well suited to the american market in the first place .   Relatively compact and fairly low powered. The Crossovers c ould do well for their part but thats about it.

But then again back in the day they didn’t have access to a large and well developed dealership network like that of FCA.

My understanding was that it’s a Ferrari-designed engine based loosely on the Pentastar engine block and cast in the US but assembled in Italy.  So, how much Pentastar is really left in this engine?

Kinja'd!!! nermal > MultiplaOrgasms

The US is still the 2nd largest auto market..... in the world.

The other thing is cost efficiencies. Say they can beat up their battery supplier to sell them batteries for $1 less due to volumes - Once you spread that across how many cars they make, it’s an enormous savings.

And that makes me sad....I just want a small, basic, efficient nippy car. Not many cars that fit that bill anymore...

Oh, I would LOVE a Panda. Not sure I would call it a crossover though...it’s sortof been around in it’s same style of shape since before Crossovers were a thing, so it’s more like just a ‘tall car’ to me, sortof.

If they sold the Panda here, especially in Panda 4x4 guise (WITH A MANUAL OPTION...), I would be ALL over one as a winter-capable DD. This is Canada, we get a lot of snow here...having a 4x4 mode available in what is a basically a tall city car would be the best of both worlds!

Fiat is all but dead in Europe, as FCA has not invested anything in Fiat in ages. The rest of the brands you mentioned are all PSA already.

Vauxhall and Opel are the same thing, Vauxhalls are nothing but RH D Opels.
